Showcase Flower Room - The plants are rapidly growing as they enter week 2.

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 2 of flowering (days 7-14).  The plants grew a lot this week both vertically and horizontally. It is rapid growth as some days there seems to be a notable difference in height from morning to evening. Not only are the plants growing this vigorously vegetatively, this week also saw the first emergence of flowers on a majority of the strains.

With the plants using this much energy it is important to stay on top of irrigation, lighting, and carbon dioxide usage in the plants. Light intensity is still being increased approximately 5% each day and irrigation length is being increased by 1 minute every other day. The carbon dioxide level was raised to 1200 parts per million which is roughly 3 times atmospheric CO2. These increases will continue until the plants settle down around week 4 to focus on flowering.

The plants were pruned heavily this week. The objective was removing lower branches and large fan leaves that were no longer in the light. It was surprising how much the undergrowth and lateral branches grew since they were pruned last week. After the pruning the airflow in the room was noticeably better and the plants seemed happier which is always a great sign.

Sometimes being a grower involves more than just focusing on plants. There can be aspects of carpentry, plumbing, HVAC, and electrical work involved. This week we got to play electrician while dealing with a malfunctioning light fixture in the Showcase Room. We were able to fix the problem before it became a major problem and the room was only down one light for six hours.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 10 of flowering (days 63-70). The majority of the plants in the room are ripe and ready to be harvested. The Pablo’s Driver and Pink Panther 99 were harvested on Friday at day 65. The Gary Payton cross will be taken down on Monday at day 68. The Micro Batch strains seem to need a little more time but a few of those strains look close to ready.

The Pablo’s Driver and Pink Panther 99 both performed well with each having their strong points. The Pablo’s Driver is prettier than the Pink Panther 99 but the Pink Panther 99 yielded much better than the Pablo’s Driver. Both have nice purple coloring, pleasant aromas, and good trichome coverage. We can’t wait to see the finished product on both of these strains.

One of the lights from this room was cleaned and moved into the Showcase Room to replace the light that malfunctioned. The lighting manufacturer will be contacted on Monday and hopefully a replacement light will be sent in a timely manner.

Moms showing their vigor as they outpaced our cloning schedule. Taking cuts and pruning back soon.

Mom and Veg Room

Mom plants are continuing to be hacked back and soon will be chopped down to do a deep clean and reset for this room. Clones of all the keeper moms have been taken and are in the process of rooting. It will be good to get this room back under control again.

Close to 200 clones were transplanted during the week for upcoming flowering rooms. The clones are transplanted into coconut fiber pots and given a mycorrhiza treatment to provide a good jump start for root health. Remember happy roots equal happy plants.

The next round of trial strains are looking nice and healthy. There are 6 strains in total in this trial run and all the seeds are regular seeds meaning male and female plants are present. This week we were able to separate the male plants from the female plants. This left us with 25 female plants which is overwhelming in number of plants but exciting for potential new awesome strains. One of the strains has a few plants showing a trait we have heard about but never seen in person before. Stay tuned to future blog posts when this trait will be described and shown in better detail. Cool and unique things are happening at Small Batch!

That’s the blog for this week. Hard to believe it’s already this time but Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas to everyone out there. Small Batch products not only make great gifts and stocking stuffers but also make  every party and gathering better so stock up! Here’s to hoping you have a fun, safe, stress free Holiday week. Thank you and talk to you next week for the last Blog of 2025. Jah Guide.

Showcase Flower Room - The Room is Fully trellised and the plants are rapidly growing as they are now in flower cycle.

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 1 of flowering (days 1-7) when the lights were switched to 12 hours on/12 hours off on Wednesday, December 11th. The plants were given a little extra vegetative growing time this cycle and this allowed us to gradually lower the daylight length over a period of about a week which helped the plants settle in the room nicely.

While it may sound counterintuitive the intensity of the light is increased while the length of daylight is decreased. The lights are currently at 70% strength and will be increased by 3% each day till the light intensity is at 100%. Carbon dioxide was also increased this week to approximately 1200 parts per million. Irrigation length and strength were also increased this week. The plants are growing so fast right now and are happily accepting all the increased inputs we are providing them. There are some abnormally large fan leaves on some of the strains, especially the Biscotti Bliss.  Overall the plants look happy and are growing well.

The room was pruned heavily this week removing fan leaves as well as lower and insignificant branches. Aggressive pruning at this stage focuses the plants energy onto the branches that will produce the nicest flower. This is an important step in trying to maximize the growth and yield of the plants.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 9 of flowering (days 56-63) and exciting things happened this week. While the majority of the strains in the room are still ripening (there are some really pretty flowers), the first strain in the room was harvested at 58 days!

The G13 Haze NYC Diesel x Cuban Black Haze turned out to be surprisingly quick while maintaining nice flower structure, color, and an interesting terpene profile that caused a lively discussion amongst the employees. This strain was gifted to us by our friend High Steppa from Western Maine. It’s a unique strain that we are lucky to have and hope you will be as excited to try this as we are.

As for the rest of the room, fan leaves are still being removed on a daily basis, as needed. Lights and CO2 are being decreased roughly every other day, and the nutrient strength is also being tapered as the plants get closer to finishing. It also looks like we are on pace to harvest a strain next week as well.

Clones starting to vegetatively grow awaiting transplant. .

A round of fresh cuttings in early rooting stage.

Mom and Veg Room

This room is slowly but surely being brought under control. The moms all had clones taken from them this week. Half of the moms were aggressively pruned, basically cut in half. Several underperforming or problematic strains were culled and won’t be grown again. The rest of the moms will be pruned in the oncoming days.

The next round of plants for a flower room are finishing up the cloning process and will also be planted early next week. The new clones have transitioned well to not having a humidity dome over them and have started growing in the tray which is the sign they are ready for transplant. All the new clones are in humidity domes and look healthy so far. A new cloning trick was tried with these plants and we will let you know how well it worked in the upcoming blogs.

The next round of trial strains are coming along nicely. The majority of the new strains are being grown from regular seeds which produce male and female plants. We aren’t keeping males at the current time so as the plants show their sex in pre-flower the males are culled and the females are labeled and numbered.  The females will have a round of clones taken for future flower trials. There is more unique and rare stuff in this trial so stay tuned for what will be grown in future rooms.

That wraps up the blog for this week. As day light continues to wane and temperatures plummet, we are thankful for growing Cannabis which lets us experience growing conditions indoors while also benefiting from all the magic Cannabis provides. Thanks for reading and stay warm out there.

Showcase Flower Room - Plants are placed and under irrigation.

Showcase Flower Room

Plants were brought into the room early this week after wrapping up the cleaning and sterilizing process. There are 16 LED light fixtures in this room and 9 plants are put under each light. That gives us a total of 144 plants in the room. The current model is 1 strain per 2 light which gives us a total of 8 strains in the room with approximately 18 plants per strain. The room was planted with 7 new strains and 1 returning favorite. The lineup for this round is as follows:

  • Pound Cake Indica

  • Dragonberry Kush Indica

  • Biscotti Bliss Hybrid

  • Frosted Fuel Hybrid

  • Guava Cupcake Sativa

  • Cheddar Cheeze Indica

  • Mind Melt Indica

  • Space Ape Hybrid

That gives us a total of 4 Indicas, 3 hybrids, and 1 sativa for this room.

When first placed in the room, all plants were watered with a compost tea to help the transition from the Veg Room to the flower room. After the plants were acclimated to the room they were spaced and placed on irrigation. Temperature in the room is in the low 80s and humidity is 65%. Light intensity, and carbon dioxide will slowly be increased as the plants grow.

Even though this is a flower room the lights are currently on a  vegetative schedule of 18 hours on 6 hours off. The plants were topped to encourage lateral growth and once we seem them respond to this pruning we will switch to a flower light schedule of 12 hours on 12 hours off. This change will happen sometime next week.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 8.

A view of Diesel Cuban Black Haze in F0A Flower Room - week 8.

A closeup of Diesel Cuban Black Haze - Week 6.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 8 of flowering (days 49-56). The flowers are maturing and ripening with some looking like they will be finished soon, maybe even next week! There are 4 main strains in the room and 6 Micro Batch trials.  All the strains are quite unique in aroma and flower structure.

The strain that will be ready first, Diesel Cuban Black Haze, has a nice fuel meets pine smell. It is almost unbelievable that this cross is this fast to finish but the appearance of the trichomes is telling us just that. We pride ourselves at Small Batch on harvesting when the plants are ready, not just arbitrary dates to accommodate crop cylces. While this strain appears it will be ready to harvest at 56, most of the other strains look like they have approximately 14 days to finish.

The room was pruned fairly heavy this week removing a lot of interior fans leaves as well as damaged and old leaves. This lets in more light and increases air flow which becomes important as the flowers continue to swell.

Light intensity, nutrient, temperature, and carbon dioxide are beginning to decrease as we try to mimic the seasonal changes the plants would encounter in nature letting them know it is time to finish their flowering cycle.

Our Moms Are Big! Awaiting cloning and trimming.

A round of fresh cuttings rooted and awaiting a transplant

Mom and Veg Room

The plants for the Showcase room were moved out of Veg which gave us extra space for a couple of days before that space was occupied with more trial varieties and cuttings. There are some cool strains coming that we are very excited about.

Moms are big again and this time it is for a major cloning event. It is about time to do a reset on our Mother plant stock as they are getting old and showing signs of wear and tear from being pruned so many times. Every strain in the room will have 10-15 clones taken and once those clones are rooted the original Moms will be cut down and the clones will become the new Moms. We don’t do this often but it is helpful to do every once in a while to keep your plants as healthy and thriving as possible.

It’s also about time to pick the strains that will fill Flower F0A soon.  We haven’t decided what yet but there will be some goodness for sure.

That about sums it up for this week. Apologies for no Blog Post last week but with the holiday and how busy we are here sometimes things happen. We are back on track (as best as we can be)  and so many cool things are happening here we are glad to keep you up to date as best as possible. Thanks for understanding, thanks for reading, and most importantly thanks for continuing to support Small Batch.

Showcase Flower Room - Slow progress on cleaning but reload will happen quickly

Every Fan is disassembled, cleaned and sanitized. We do this to every square inch of the room. Ceiling, walls, floors, fixtures, fans , tables, dehumidifiers, air conditioners, lights and even the power cords are cleaned and sanitized to assure the next run has the best chance at success. It is a painstakingly long procedure and takes a crew multiple days to accomplish. 100% essential.

Showcase Flower Room

In the poem “To a Mouse,” by Robert Burns there is a line that translates to “The best laid plans of mice and men often go awry” and that was certainly true for the Showcase room this week. The room has not finished being cleaned and sanitized so the plants were not brought into the room this week. Progress is being made and what seemed a monumental task when started now feels manageable and will be completed soon. The plants for the room are growing and healthy (one strain is being finicky) and most likely will be quickly, if not directly, into flower once placed into the room.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 6.

A view of Pink Panther 99 in F0A Flower Room - week 6.

A closeup of Pablo’s Driver - Week 6.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 6 of flowering (days 35-42). They are focusing the majority of their energy on flower development. The flowers are continuing to swell while becoming denser, more resinous, and aromatic. Trichome development is becoming noticeable as they mature. At this point the individuality of each strain is clearly apparent.

There was a light fan leaf pruning this week. There will be two more heavier prunings before the plants are harvested as light penetration and air circulation are so important in flower. Flowers are also being arranged and supported in the trellis as needed.

The big maintenance task in the room this week was cleaning the reservoirs. The success of our irrigation system relies on consistent waterings and to achieve this the lines and emitters need to be working properly. Organics are great and highly recommended but come with the added responsibility of more cleaning as they tend to clog lines. Weekly maintenance on the lines and reservoir is ideal but if that can’t be achieved biweekly maintenance must be done. This week the reservoir was scrubbed and emptied to remove particle and sediment accumulation while next week the lines and emitters will be flushed.

The seedlings are all transplanted and awaiting their final transplant and relocation to the showcase Flower Room.

A round of fresh cuttings prepairing For The next F0A Flower Room reload.

Mom and Veg Room

The out of control mother plants were tamed this week and pruned aggressively. Now we have semi out of control moms left which will be worked on soon.

Over 275 clones were taken from eight strains for the next round of flower. We believe in taking way more clones than needed for two reasons. First, this way only the best clones are chosen to work with and this leads to the best results in the grow room. Second, if the plants are difficult to clone or a mistake happens there should still be enough material to achieve the desired number of plants

The plants for the Showcase Flower Room are doing well and starting to get big. They are ready to be transplanted and pruned. The coco pots are being expanded and we are excited to transplant these strains. The Micro Batch strains also look great and should soon start to show if they will be male or female plants. We are so excited for all these new, cool, and unique strains.

Thanks for reading this week's blog. We do things differently here at Small Batch and hope you appreciate our uniqueness as much as we enjoy sharing our uniqueness with you. Have a Happy Thanksgiving and stay safe out there.

Showcase Flower Room - Harvest Complete - awaiting a thorough clean and reload

Showcase Flower Room

As the room was about to enter Week 11 (days 70-77), the harvest was wrapping up. The majority of the room was taken between days 67-71. The few strains that were taken earlier are still drying but will so be put into buckets to start the curing process.

Every strain that was in the room will be available for purchase as flower while four strains were saved to make into concentrates. The aromas range from fruity to gas to funk. The colors vary from classic cannabis green to dark purple with several strains showing a mix of both colors. With the variety of strains that were grown in this room everyone should be able to find something they like.

Now that the room is empty the next step is to clean and sterilize it before it is reloaded with the next round of plants. It is extremely important to do a thorough job of cleaning the room as a clean room is required for clean, consistent harvest. A good rule to remember when cleaning is ACBD, Always Clean Before Disinfecting. The room will be cleaned, disinfected, and replanted by next week's blog.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 5.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 5.

A view of Pink Panther in Flower - Week 5.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 5 of flowering (days 28-35). All growth in the plant is now focused strictly on the flowers. The flowers are starting to swell and resin production is noticeable in all strains. The individuality of each strain is now really beginning to become apparent. The aromas in the room are still subtle but increasing everyday. There should be some fun and exciting strains in this room.

The maintenance in the room continues to primarily be under canopy pruning. The majority of the pruning was the removal of fan leaves but there was still some flower that needed to be removed. The flowers that were pruned were either in overcrowded sections or were so behind in growth and development that it is best to remove them and focus that energy on the remaining flowers on the plant.

The room is approximately 82 degrees during the day and the humidity was lowered this week from 65%-60%.  Lights and CO2 are still at their highest set points. The plants are watered heavily at this stage with elevated levels of phosphorus and potassium in the nutrient solution. Once a week the plants are fed mostly water to help prevent the over accumulation of nutrients in the pot. Pro tip of the week is to add organic inputs to your pot and root zone. The difference is noticeable and your plants will thank you.

A Few Moms reaching for the lights.

Big jumps in growth as seedlings show aggressive vigor.

Mom and Veg Room

The moms are growing well and are ready to be pruned again. The moms that needed to be cloned last weren’t and now they really need to be cloned as soon as possible. The nutrient solution was lowered slightly this week to hopefully keep them healthy but slow down their growth slightly.

Every plant for the showcase room has been transplanted into its first pot. The plants are growing well and overall look healthy. The light intensity was lowered this week as a few strains seemed to be getting burned from too much light. The plants have responded nicely to the light change and seem to be less yellow and a healthier shade of green. The 1 gallon pots for their next transplant will be prepared in the next few days and the plants will be transplanted and moved into the showcase room next week.

There are always new and exciting things going on at Small Batch so if you have any questions please reach out to us. Thanks for reading this week’s blog.

Day 68 Showcase Flower Room - Harvest Continues

Headband Cookies - Day 68 - Sea of Spears

Lemon Berry Candy - Day 68

Cheetah Fat #2 For Hash Run - day 68

Purple Urkle x Skunk 1 Day 68

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 10 of flowering (days 63-70). As the plants approach their finishing dates light intensity and temperature are lowered in the room. This helps encourage the plant to finish its ripening process. The plants took this cue and showed signs this week that they are ready to be harvested. This begins the takedown process.

At Small Batch takedown in its simplest form is cutting the flower off the plant and carefully removing it from the trellis. It is then either laid in a tote to be hung and dried for smokable packaged flower or cut and placed in a bag to be used for freezing and making hash. Every strain in the room will be available in flower form, but not every strain will be made into hash. In this room about half the strains will have material saved for concentrates. The harvest started on day 65 and should be wrapped up by day 70.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 4.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 4.

A view of plants in F0A Flower Room in week 4.

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered week 4 of flowering (days 21-28). The plants have finished stretching (thankfully as there are some TALL plants) and now begin focusing most of their energy on flower production. The strains are starting to show their uniqueness in flower shape and structure. Resin production is now noticeable on all the flowers. There look to be some fun varieties in this room.

Light, temperature, and CO2 are at the highest levels. Irrigation is longer at this stage and the plant nutrition now focuses more on flower production and development.

Maintenance in the room is under canopy pruning and leaf removal. This will be the last week of pruning fairly aggressive and using scissors. The material left on the plant now is what will make it through to harvest. The tops of the plants will be gently arraigned in the  top layer of the trellis netting. This helps maximize light penetration and can improve air circulation.

Recently Pruned Moms on the full mend!

Germinated Seeds showing first sets of leaves.

Mom and Veg Room

The moms that were pruned last week responded well and are already growing again. The plants that were not pruned are gigantic now. They will have clones taken off of them early next week and will be pruned heavily afterwards.

The seeds that were planted on 10/26 have germinated and started growing. The nicest seedlings were taken from the seedling tray and transplanted into small pots. This is an intermediate stage before the plants go into the final pot. More plants are transplanted into small pots than needed as this lets us choose the best plants for the final transplant. We have more plants than the flower room can handle so it’s still up in the air as to what will eventually be put into the Showcase Room.

That wraps up the blog for this week as it’s time to get back to work. Please check out the Super Micron Bros. if you haven’t yet. They are doing amazing work right now. Browse their blog and buy their stuff,  you won’t be disappointed!

Day 61 Showcase Flower Room

A Birds Eye view of a row in our Showcase Flower Room

Lemon Berry Candy buds “as big as ya aaahm guy”! Each of the trellis squares is 6’ x 6’ for perspective.

Cheetah Fat #4 - day 61

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 9 of flowering (days 56-63). Not much is currently happening in this room as we are waiting for the flowers to finish ripening. There are some pretty flowers and wonderful aromas present in the room.

As we wait for the plants to finish the inputs given to the plants are slowly reduced. This mimics the natural seasonal cycle of the plants and lets them know it is time to finish. Light intensity, temperature, carbon dioxide, fertilizer strength, and humidity are all cut back during these final weeks.

While there are still eight strains in the room four of the remaining strains have more than one expression of their genetics. This is known as phenotype.  There are two phenotypes of Blackout Bobby, four phenotypes of Cheetah Fat, and five phenotypes of both Purple Urkle x Superskunk and Maraschino OG. The different phenotypes will have different growing habits, flower structures, colors, smells, tastes, and  finishing times. As these plants finish we will select our favorite phenotypes from each of these strains. The best phenotypes will be made into moms while the lesser ones will be culled from our collection.

A view of plants in week 3.

Week 3 of Flower

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 3 of flowering (days 14-21). They are entering the final phase of the “stretch” cycle of flowering. This means that while the plants are still growing in height and width the flower development in each strain is becoming more apparent. The uniqueness of every strain is starting to show and this should be a fun room to grow and smoke.

The plants were all pruned this week. The pruning is focused mostly on the under canopy branches and leaves that are below the trellis and receiving little to no light. The pruning at this stage still involves using scissors, but some large fan leaves are being removed by hand.  The irrigation is slowly increased as the plants continue to grow. The lights are being raised both in height and intensity to keep up with the pace of the plant growth.

The under canopy fan system was installed this week which helps move the stale air which can get trapped under the canopy. Stale air can lead to problems so it is best to get as much air movement in the room as possible. That is why there are so many fans, both under and above the canopy, in every room.

Seeds germinating . It’s Spring in here!

Mom and Veg Room

The majority of the moms were finally pruned this week. Most plants were reduced by more than half their size so the appearance of the room is noticeably different. The few moms that weren’t pruned will have cuttings taken from them soon for use in a future flower room.

This week over 250 seeds were started. Most of these seeds (9 strains) will be used as plants for the next round of the Showcase Room. The remaining seeds (7strains)  were started as trials for future Micro Batch releases. We are always looking for new strains and aren’t afraid to try new and untested genetics. You will find strains at Small Batch you won’t find anywhere else!

That is about all for this week. With the upcoming changing of the clocks and earlier, darker days, come in and bask in the glow of our showcase room. Be in the know and watch it grow! Thanks for reading.

Day 54 Showcase Flower Room

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 8 of flowering (days 49-56). The exciting news in the room this week is that we had our first harvest in the room. The Grape MOB #1 was harvested at 47 days. This is incredibly fast and to be honest it was taken a little early but we were so excited to try it we couldn’t wait. The aroma is grape forward, but there is a gassy funk with traditional MOB smell in there as well.

The next strains coming down will be the Micro Batch Litchfield Afghani (LitchGhani?) and the Cheetah Fat #4. These strains represent opposite spectrums in cannabis breeding. The Litchfield Afghani being what is considered “Old School”. It is based on landrace genetics grown and stabilized over many years to finish outdoors in Maine. It is mostly green with hints of purple and a true Afghani aroma. The Cheetah Fat would be considered more modern with strains such as Gelato 42, Sunset Sherbet, and GMO Cookies in its lineage. It is very frosty and has some beautiful color and hues. The #4 almost has a maroon look to it.

This room is in its maintenance stage as we wait for the flowers to ripen. This means we are constantly monitoring for proper irrigation strategies and removing large fan leaves and yellowing leaves as well.

A view of plants in week 2. Already showing pre-flower!

F0A Flower Room

The plants entered Week 2 of flowering (days 7-14). They have transitioned nicely into flower and are growing vigorously. There are a few strains that have some of the largest fan leaves we have ever seen on indoor plants!

All  three layers of trellising were laid out and the plants have already grown into the second tier. There are a few tall plants in the third tier. These plants are going to be big.

All the plants had their undergrowth pruned this week. This focuses their energy into the branches we want to keep. It also helps with air flow and light penetration. As the plants grow we increase the light intensity, atmospheric CO2, and irrigation lengths.

Four new strains and six Micro Batch strains makes this room exciting to grow.

Tahoe Freezer

Mom and Veg Room

The plants in this room continue growing and growing. They are all ready for a good pruning which will take place in the next day or two. It is also about time to take some back up clones of most of the moms. As the moms get old it is good to have a back up in case they don’t respond well to their pruning. The older a plant gets the trickier it can be to work with and having spares is never a bad thing.

As of this writing plugs are being soaked and the seeds for the next round of the Showcase room will be planted in 24 hours.

That’s about all for the Grow this week. In other Small Batch news we just did a taste test of a new Super Micron Bros. drop and it was fantastic in taste and high. There are always good things happening at Small Batch. Thanks and stay tuned next week for more Small Batch adventures.

Day 48 Showcase Flower Room

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 7 of flowering (days 42-49). Everyday the room is smelling better and better. 8 strains and 8 unique aromas. The size and structure of each strain's flower is also unique and becoming very noticeable.

The variety in Cannabis genetics is simply quite amazing and one of the reasons we love this plant so much. The Grape MOB #1 will be harvested at around 47 days while the Lemon Berry Candy and Headband Cookies will take 70-77 days to finish ripening before harvest. Most of the other strains in the room will fall somewhere in between for finishing time.

The work in this room is still removing fan leaves and adjusting irrigation as needed. It is a joy to spend time in this room.

A view of plants freshly reloaded into FOA.

F0A Flower Room

After a thorough job of cleaning and sterilizin, F0A was reloaded with plants on Wednesday. The plants are so big from an extra week of vegetative growth that the room was put directly into flower. The plants are so tall and lanky that they immediately needed to be trellised. The fact that they are so lanky made the trellising of the first layer a slow and methodical process so as not to snap any tops or branches. The effort was worth it as the plants have all adjusted nicely and they are growing and looking healthy. This room has all new strains never grown before at Small Batch. The strains are:

  • Pink Panther 99 (Pink Panther x Cindy 99)

  • Pablo’s Driver (Pablo’s Revenge x Devil Driver)

  • Diesel Cuban Black Haze (Diesel x Cuban Black Haze)

  • Mystery Gary (Gary Payton x ?)

There was also a change to the Micro Batch strains. Anaphylaxis (Peanut Butter Breath x Deadly Sativa) was added and the Trainwreck Afghani was removed to be trialed at a later date.

Mom and Veg Room

The big event this week was getting the plants for F0A moved. Other than that the room was mostly just watered and maintained this week. The room is due for a big pruning which will happen in the oncoming week. Also next week will begin propagation for the next round in the Showcase Room which is always exciting. More new strains to come!

Day 40 Showcase Flower Room

MOB x Grape Cream Cake #1 at day 38

MOB x Grape Cream Cake #2 at day 38

Litchfield Afghani day 38

Showcase Flower Room

The plants entered Week 6 of flowering (days 35-42). At this stage every strain is in full flower mode and the room smells amazing. Everyday the plants get stickier as well. The main focus of the work is removing fan leaves for air circulation as well as light penetration. Irrigation is monitored daily and some strains are quite thirsty now  even needing extra waterings to keep them on the proper track.

Most of the room looks like they have a fair amount of time left to finish (4-5 weeks) but a few strains look like they will finish sooner, especially the MOB x Grape Cream Cake and the Litchfield Afghani. These two girls are from Maine Breeders and we feel lucky to have them in our collection. They both didn’t stretch much in early flower, focusing that energy on early flower production. We have 2 expressions of the MOB x Grape Cream Cake. The #1 has flowers that are more pyramidal in shape, favor the grape side in the aroma, and look like they will be done first. The #2 has a more rounded shape to the flower, smells very much like the MOB, and will take slightly longer to finish. The Litchfield Afghani was bred to finish outdoors in Maine and its flowering speed is apparent. At this stage the smell is Earthy with a hint of floral, and the flower structure is similar to the #1 of the MOB x Grape Cream Cake. We are so excited for these plants to be ready and hope you are too!

A view of plants in our veg room ready to reload FOA. These were planted 2 weeks ago. They are about 4 weeks from rooted clone. So much new variety coming!!!

F0A Flower Room

The room is still in the process of being cleaned and sanitized. It is taking longer than it normally would but will be done soon. The good news is that the new driver for the light arrived late Friday afternoon so the room will be ready to go once it’s finished being sanitized. We should have the plants in the room and flowering by early next week.

Mom and Veg Room

The most vigorous moms were pruned heavily while the rest were left to grow for another week. This equated to about half of the moms being pruned.

The plants that are to be placed in F0A were all pruned this week and are growing nice and big. They are ready to be put in their final places and start flowering. These are all new varieties for us to grow which means more new varieties for you to enjoy. The Micro Batch Strains are showing some real unique traits. Those are gigantic leaves (see pics above) for 4 week old clones on the Lip Smacker and Tahoe Freezer.

The Micro Batch Strains are:

  • Lip Smacker (Sherb x Strawberries & Cream)

  • Tahoe Freezer (Tahoe OG x Maine Freezer)

  • Flying Tiger (Tiger Melon x Apollo 11 Genius)

  • Trainwreck Afghani (Trainwreck x New Brunswick Affy)

  • Genius Thai ( Lemon Thai x Apollo 11 Genius)

  • Silver Mountain (Super Silver Haze x Appalachia)

That is about all for this week. Stay tuned as next week the strains for F0A will be revealed. Thanks for reading and talk to you next week.

Day 33 Showcase Flower Room

Showcase Flower Room

The plants have entered Week 5 of flowering (days 28-35). The uniqueness of every strain in the room is becoming apparent and there is a lot of variety in there. It’s striking to see some strains barely grow in the flowering stage while others will grow 2-3 times their original size. The speed of flower development is also very noticeable at this time. Some strains will be done around 56-63 days while others will take 77-84 days. The trichomes and aromas are more prominent this week as well.

Temperature, CO2 and light strength are at their peak. Humidity will slowly be lowered as the flowers continue to grow. Lights were raised over several strains to keep the proper intensity. Irrigation is being adjusted daily as some strains require more water than others.

Fan leaves were removed mostly from under the canopy but some larger fan leaves were removed in the canopy as well. Removing leaves is becoming a sticky job as the trichomes are noticeable in pruning now.

F0A Flower Room

This room is in the process of being cleaned and sterilized to reload with plants. The plants and organic matter have been removed and swept clean. The next steps are scrubbing, mopping, and wiping down everything and every surface.

We had to borrow a driver from this room to replace a malfunctioning driver in the Showcase Room. This left us a light down but since there are no plants in the room it happened at the best time possible for us. The manufacturer has been contacted and a replacement ballast will be here shortly. With luck all the timing will line up and we will have a clean, fully lit room with plants in it sometime next week.

Healthy transplants ready to reload F0A Flower Room

Mom and Veg Room

The moms did not get pruned this week and now they are too big!  This will be remedied in the next few days. They do look nice and healthy which is great.

The plants for F0A have responded well to the transplant and have started growing in their new pots. Every plant was pruned by being “topped” which is removing the top most growing tip of the plant. They are all on irrigation and the light is slowly being increased to prepare them for flower. Every strain in the room will be brand new to Small Batch and there is some exciting stuff in there. Stay tuned to future posts where the strains will be revealed.

Thanks for taking the time to read this week's blog. Let us know what you think of the blog and if there is anything else you would like to know don’t hesitate to reach out. We hope you enjoy Small Batch as much as we do.

Day 26 View of the Showcase Flower Room from our in-store viewing window

Showcase Flower Room

The Plants have entered Week 4 of flowering (days 21-28). This is when the plants have maxed out on growth and start focusing their energy on flowering. Every strain in the room is flowering nicely. We are starting to see trichomes and the aromas are starting to be apparent. There are already some great smells in the room.

The lights and CO2 are at their peak. The nutrient was altered to promote better flower growth. While performing nutrient check this week we noticed that one section was not irrigating properly. After two attempts, one Sunday and one Thursday the issue was solved. The culprit was a faulty backflow valve. All sections are watering properly again.

This was the last week for pruning with scissors. Scissors are used to remove unwanted branches and flowers. From now on all pruning will be hand removal of fan leaves. We prune to maximize light penetration and air flow.

Strawberry Jamz - Day 70

F0A Flower Room

The harvest was completed this week. The Iraqi Triangle, Chem Kesey, Gelato Pops, and Sherb Cream Pie were harvested on Friday at 67 days. The Cap Junky and Strawberry Jamz were harvested on Monday at 70 days. Flower was fresh frozen for the Iraqi Triangle, Cap Junky, and Strawberry Jamz. They will soon be turned into incredible concentrates by the Super Micron Bros..

This room is in the process of being deep cleaned and sterilized so it can be reloaded with plants. We have some exciting new strains for this room.

Veg Room - view of clones ready for transplant

Mom and Veg Room

The mom plants are getting big and bushy again and need to be pruned soon, probably early next week. This will keep us on the proper schedule for their health and irrigation purposes.

The plants for F0A are in the process of being transplanted into their final 1 gallon pots. Only the best plants are selected and the roots treated with mycorrhizae as they are planted into the coco. There will be four new strains and some micro batch testers as well.

Thanks for reading. We appreciate our customers and enjoy answering any questions you have. Feel free to reach out with your favorite strains or recommendations for strains you would like to see us grow.

week of 9/14-9/20

It all begins with an idea.

Day 14 - View of the Showcase Flower Room reloaded with 9 strains

Showcase Flower Room

The plants started Week 3 of flowering (days 14-21). The plants have grown tremendously and are filling in the canopy as well. Every strain in the room is flowering and the flowers are getting big quick!

During this time we are slowly increasing the light and CO2 levels in the room. As the plants grow taller the lights are lifted along with them. This week the lights were lifted 3 times to keep up with growth. The room was pruned early in the week and it already looks ready for another pruning

Testers were placed this week, one for each strain. The testers tell us how the plants are responding to their environment and irrigation schedule. We determine irrigation length and strength based on the results the testers provide. This week irrigation length increased almost daily and the plants are still enjoying a strong fertilizer solution as they are growing and flowering so vigorously.

F0A Flower Room

The plants in this room are currently in Week 10 of flowering (days 63-70). We will begin harvesting the end of this week. A few strains need a little more time so they will be harvested early next week. Harvest involves cutting down the plant, removing fan leaves, and then hanging in the dry room for the appropriate amount of time. We also save some material to freeze for the Super Micron Bros. to do their magic making wonderful concentrates.

There is a nice variety of strains in this room, all with unique smells, colors, flavors, and flower shapes. We are excited for this harvest and hope you will be as well.

Veg Room - view of freshly up-potted clones

Veg Room - view of moms rebounding from an aggressive prune

Mom and Veg Room

The moms that were pruned heavy last week have adjusted well and have started to grow again. We will let them grow for about another week or so and then prune them back again. We only need to let them grow big when we need cuttings from them for future rooms. We are a few weeks away from that being necessary.

All the clones for the next round of F0A have been planted in their first pots. They are growing well and everyday we increase the light intensity by small increments getting them ready for their final transplant and being put into flower.

That’s about it for this week. We have to go and get ready for Harvest. Thanks for reading and please let us know what you think.

Day07 - View of the Showcase Flower Room Reloaded with 9 strains

Showcase Flower Room

The Showcase Room is entering Week 2 (days 7-14) of their flowering cycle and the plants are settling in nicely. Every plant was pruned this week and they responded well. The first 3-4 weeks of flowering the plants are still focusing most of their energy on growth while some energy is reserved for flower sets to start to bud. Believe it or not; we are already seeing some strains starting to show pistils!  Speaking of strains since they haven’t been announced yet we will do it here first. There are 8 main strains in the room with a 9th strain being a Micro Batch Trial.

  • Maraschino OG (SFV OG x Cherry AK-47)

  • Cheetah Fat (Cheetah Piss x Fatso 84)

  • 88 G 13 Hash Plant

  • MOB x Grape Cream Cake

  • Blackout Bobby (Gelato x Rainbow Chip)

  • Headband Cookies

  • Lemon Berry Candy

  • Purple Eurkle x Superskunk

  • Litchfield Afghani (old school Maine heirloom) is the Micro Batch

F0A Flower Room in week 9

F0A Flower Room

F0A is in week 9 of flower which means the plants are getting close to harvest. This late in flower the plants have really stopped growing and the flowers have stopped swelling so we are basically waiting for the flowers to “ripen”. We look at the flowers with a magnifier to see what the trichomes are telling us. This week the trichomes tell us the plants are close to being ready just not quite there yet. We at Small Batch harvest when the plants tell us they are ready, not just on a chosen date like at other places. 6 strains  in the room and we will list them in order of what we think will be ready first.

  • Gelato Pops

  • Iraqi Triangle

  • Sherb Cream Pie

  • Strawberry Jamz

  • Chem Kesey

  • Cap Junky

Veg Room - view of moms fully pruned with our aggressive “bonsai” prune style

Veg Room

The very large and bushy moms were all pruned aggressively this week and taken back to about half the size they were last week. Pruning this way is not the recommended way but the plants are resilient and can take it and in some cases they respond very well to the hard prune. If pruning this way, remember to cut back on the amount of water you are giving the plants.

Also this week we started planting the clones which will eventually be planted in F0A. Clones are planted in coco coir and the roots are treated with a mycorrhiza. Mycorrhiza is a beneficial soil fungi which helps improve root structure and improve water and nutrient uptake in the plant. Healthy roots lead to healthy plants!

That’s about all that’s new and exciting for this week. Please check back next week where hopefully we will have some news about harvest dates.

week of 08/31 - 9/06

Day01 - View of the Showcase Flower Room Reloaded with 9 strains

Showcase Flower Room

Our grow team was forced to push back our in-store Showcase Flower Room re-load a couple of weeks longer than we’d typically like.  We’ve had a few Air Conditioning units that have been malfunctioning over the past few months that needed some maintenance work.  When that was complete we worked a long 4 days cleaning and sanitizing.  As soon as we could eat off the floor, we felt comfortable enough to move the already overgrown plants out of our veg space and into the Showcase Flower Room. (See the above pic)

It’s now re-loaded with 9 strains from cutting.  Once the clones were rooted, they were transplanted into 1gallon coco fiber bags.  They vegetatively grew in our veg room for about three weeks.

Due to the setbacks, we were over due to trigger a 12-12 light cycle and our Chief Horticulturalist decided it was best to initiate the flower cycle on day one of reload.  They were ready. These young ladies are big and as we expect a 2 to 4x stretch in the first 3-4 weeks of the flower cycle, this grow will be large.  Wish us luck!

F0A Flower Room in week 8

F0A Flower Room

As this is the beginning of our new Grow Blog,  we are behind on current updates.  We are nearly completing a full flower cycle in this flower room.  There are currently 6 strains in this room.  Its starting week 9 of flower so we are getting close to starting harvest on a couple of these strains.  We’ll keep you posted.

Veg Room - view of moms taking over

Veg Room

Our Moms are out of control and in need of maintenance (see Pic above).   We will tackle the pruning and maintenance of these over this weekend.  We have Cuttings rooting and new seed trials started for the reload of FOa Flower Room in the next few weeks.
