Cheetah Fat #4 - day 61
Showcase Flower Room
The plants entered Week 9 of flowering (days 56-63). Not much is currently happening in this room as we are waiting for the flowers to finish ripening. There are some pretty flowers and wonderful aromas present in the room.
As we wait for the plants to finish the inputs given to the plants are slowly reduced. This mimics the natural seasonal cycle of the plants and lets them know it is time to finish. Light intensity, temperature, carbon dioxide, fertilizer strength, and humidity are all cut back during these final weeks.
While there are still eight strains in the room four of the remaining strains have more than one expression of their genetics. This is known as phenotype. There are two phenotypes of Blackout Bobby, four phenotypes of Cheetah Fat, and five phenotypes of both Purple Urkle x Superskunk and Maraschino OG. The different phenotypes will have different growing habits, flower structures, colors, smells, tastes, and finishing times. As these plants finish we will select our favorite phenotypes from each of these strains. The best phenotypes will be made into moms while the lesser ones will be culled from our collection.
A view of plants in week 3.
Week 3 of Flower
F0A Flower Room
The plants entered Week 3 of flowering (days 14-21). They are entering the final phase of the “stretch” cycle of flowering. This means that while the plants are still growing in height and width the flower development in each strain is becoming more apparent. The uniqueness of every strain is starting to show and this should be a fun room to grow and smoke.
The plants were all pruned this week. The pruning is focused mostly on the under canopy branches and leaves that are below the trellis and receiving little to no light. The pruning at this stage still involves using scissors, but some large fan leaves are being removed by hand. The irrigation is slowly increased as the plants continue to grow. The lights are being raised both in height and intensity to keep up with the pace of the plant growth.
The under canopy fan system was installed this week which helps move the stale air which can get trapped under the canopy. Stale air can lead to problems so it is best to get as much air movement in the room as possible. That is why there are so many fans, both under and above the canopy, in every room.
Seeds germinating . It’s Spring in here!
Mom and Veg Room
The majority of the moms were finally pruned this week. Most plants were reduced by more than half their size so the appearance of the room is noticeably different. The few moms that weren’t pruned will have cuttings taken from them soon for use in a future flower room.
This week over 250 seeds were started. Most of these seeds (9 strains) will be used as plants for the next round of the Showcase Room. The remaining seeds (7strains) were started as trials for future Micro Batch releases. We are always looking for new strains and aren’t afraid to try new and untested genetics. You will find strains at Small Batch you won’t find anywhere else!
That is about all for this week. With the upcoming changing of the clocks and earlier, darker days, come in and bask in the glow of our showcase room. Be in the know and watch it grow! Thanks for reading.
